Dear friends and family—
We hope this letter finds you well and enjoying the break from our cool, rainy springtime. We are convinced that consistently warmer days are sure to come!!!
For those who have not heard, our crazy, feisty, and vibrant mom was diagnosed with ALS/Lou Gehrig’s disease in January of this year. To say that it was a shock would be an understatement. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neuromuscular degenerative disorder that affects 1 out of 50,000 people. Despite exhaustive research, there is no known cure for the disease process. It is estimated that the cost of supportive care for an individual with ALS can exceed $200,000.
There are few things in life that could slow down Joan Sucher... a woman who was running her 8th half marathon last October at the age of 63. Through it all, she continues to be a beacon of strength and grace and an amazing example of perseverance for us and our children. We all know that hers will be a long, challenging road. But, you can be assured that we will be on this journey with her… coping, laughing, crying, learning, and growing stronger everyday.
To that end, we have decided to honor our mom in the most appropriate way possible… a golf tournament, of course!!! We would love for you to join us for a fun filled day of golf and friendly competition on August 17, 2013. We have also set up the Joan Sucher Benefit Fund, of which half of the funds raised will be contributed to the ALS Association and the remaining half will be devoted to assisting mom with the daily challenges on her horizon.
At this point, we have started the process of soliciting donations to help make this event a huge success. Please take a moment to look at the attached SAVE THE DATE flyer as well as the donation form for either you or your business. We will be sending out the registration for golf as we get closer to the actual date.
When we reach the edge of all the light we have and take the step into the unknown, we must believe one of two things will happen…. There will be something solid for us to stand on or we will be taught to fly. ~S. Martin Edges
Please feel free to share this with anyone you think we may have missed in this attempt. Thanks for helping us to give our mom wings.
